I’m 22, and I’m from Sydney, Australia. (audience cheers) – Do you normally get this
reaction when you do perform? – George, he’s, like,
very well-known here. – Oh, you’re, you’re, okay–
– Yeah. – [Jack Voiceover] Winning Australia’s Got Talent as a 14-year-old, I went from being just some kid on the northern beaches,
to not really being able to go anywhere without
someone recognizing me. I was signed with a
label, put out two albums. I was traveling around
Australia, just doing gigs. It got pretty crazy, pretty quickly. I was just living my dream. It was all the most amazing experience. Like, I’m so, so grateful. But I think somewhere along the line, I just started to listen
to people too much. I was going through puberty
in front of the whole country, but when you’re trying to work out whether you’re gay or not, (laughs) that’s not the easiest thing to do. There was Facebook pages
with death threats, and all that kind of stuff. That stuff, like, does get to you. I was disconnecting with music. I was disconnecting from myself. Like, that’s who I am. And now, I’m doing The Voice
because I miss singing. I miss music. And it’s taken so long
for me to get to a place where I’m, just that I love it again. (upbeat mellow pop music) I’m not little Jack Vidgen anymore. I’m 22 years old. I obviously look different. I think there’ll definitely
be scrutiny from people. But I’m the most
comfortable I’ve ever been in my own skin at the moment. I’m just here to sing. That’s all I want to do (laughs). ♪ Yeah ♪ ♪ Whoa baby, I’m sorry for
everything that I’ve done ♪ ♪ But when I call you
never seem to be home ♪ ♪ Hello from the other side ♪ (audience cheers) – Jack! Where have you been these last five years? – Yeah, I stopped singing five years ago. – Why? – I just fell out of love with singing, that’s as simple as what it was. – [Boy George] Well, what about now? – [Guy] Yeah. – What about now? – You know what, I’ve,
it’s taken years and years for me to actually want to
step on a stage and love it. And that was, like, the
most incredible moment I’ve had in five years (laughs). (audience cheers) – Winning Australia’s Got Talent, any 14-year-old would want that. Like, it was crazy. But I just don’t think I
knew the effect it was having at the time. When I was about 16, I ended
up going over to the States for about a year by myself. I went over there and I just think I hit a lot of road blocks, and I got exposed to a lot of things that I just don’t think is great to be exposed to at that age as well. I think it was just kind of
a snowball effect for me. It was me, as well, believing everything, all the negative things people
were starting to say about me once I became more well-known. – Don’t let anyone project onto you. You know? You can’t let anybody rule that. And that’s a journey
throughout your life, you know? – Yeah. (audience cheers) – [Boy George] What do you
want from this experience? – I think what I actually didn’t
have last time is a mentor, and someone that’s gonna be
there after the show as well, and it’s just someone that’s caring. I want to share my
narrative through singing and music and writing. It’s showing the beautiful parts of pain. – [Boy George] Yes. – That’s what I want to do in life. (audience cheers) – I would love to be your coach, because I can hear a lot
of that pain in your voice. You’re like me when I was younger, like you start doing runs and tricks. But it’s really because you’re nervous. And so I think with you, we
need to strip away all the pain. We need to strip away everything and just get back to your love of music. – What I would really encourage you, too, you know, love yourself, because that’s how you make other people
fall in love with you. Do you know what I mean? (audience cheers) And I think that’s the job. (audience cheers) Really important that when
you go out there and sing, the people see that kind of self-worth. I think it’s really important
for you to have that, really important. – You pick who you need to pick, but do it knowing that
there’s a lot of expectations on you at a young age. But you owe nobody anything right now. Look out for you. – That’s a great thing to say. – And just be you. (audience cheers) (anticipatory music) – I would love to be on all of your teams, but Guy, I would love, love,
love to be on your team. (audience cheers) – The song that I’ve chosen for you is “Love the Way You Lie.” It’s very emotional. – Yeah. – It’s not about singing
beat notes or beat trills. It’s about telling that story. – Yeah. – So our challenge is
how we simplify stuff, in stripping away all of the tricks. – That does speak for me, because, like, it’s kind
of like my safety blanket. – Oh, I know. – The big challenge for Jack is to control his fear. If he doesn’t, I don’t think
I can take him through. (audience applauding) Come on, Jack. ♪ On the first page of our story, ♪ ♪ The future seemed so bright ♪ ♪ Then this thing turned out so evil ♪ ♪ Don’t know why I’m still surprised ♪ ♪ Even angels have their wicked schemes ♪ ♪ And you take that to new extremes ♪ ♪ But you’ll always be my hero ♪ ♪ Even though you’ve lost your mind ♪ ♪ Just gonna stand there

vulnerability just kind of bleeds through what you do. And that is gonna serve you. You know, even though it’s
quite scary sometimes. (laughs) – Yeah. – It’s actually the thing
that makes everyone go (gasps) You know, you’re amazing. – Thank you. (audience cheers) – You know, Jack, I saw an artist that was just trying to break free, and trying to really shine the
way you know you can shine. You need me the most, Jack, so I’m gonna move forward with you. (audience cheers) – Thank you so much. – Welcome, Jack. You have won the Knockout, Jack. – I think this is probably
the most difficult song that anyone has on Team Guy. – Great. – Awesome. (laughs) – The reason being is, this
song is all about connection, but it’s all about vulnerability. It’s not about anything
else except for literally just having all of those
feelings here, in your eyes. This song is extremely emotional, and that’s the next step
for criterion for Jack. They need to be able to get
to the heart of the song, throw away all the tricks,
throw away everything, and just break people’s hearts. Jack, for you, go there. Go there, to that time when
you were at the bottom, and you had fallen, and you were like, “Screw this, I’m done! “I give up. “I’ve tried everything.” – I spent a long time trying
to get out of that place, that Guy is trying to
get me to tap back into. And I guess it’s a matter of
working out how to do that and trying not to break (laughs). – People aren’t looking for polish. They’re not looking
for someone who’s gonna hit the perfect notes,
and everything like that. They’re just looking for someone who feels the pain that they felt. I’m saying that to you, and you, and you. I feel your pain. I’ve been there. And then people start to think about when they’ve been there. – Yeah. – That’s what matters. way you honed in on your vocal. You seemed really, really focused. (audience cheers) – Congratulations, Jack! You are going through to the finals! – I think you’ve really shaken things up. As a coach, everyone’s
messaging me about Jack Vidgen. – Before my audition
aired, there was definitely a lot of negative stuff, because obviously there’s
like, a lot of stuff around my face, and my lips, and whatever. I think at first I
questioned why these people feel like they need to
say something about it. I think they fell in love with me as that 14-year-old boy and the people want to hold on to that. And I’m the same person. I’m just grown. I want to bring that with me (laughs). – There’s this kind of core
thing in you that I’ve noticed, that may be from everything
that’s happened to you, there’s this kind of
feeling of not good enough. – It’s sometimes as if
there’s like, this dark cloud. I just don’t, it’s just hard to shake. – I think as your coach, I
just want to make you feel like you are exactly who
you’re supposed to be. I mean, your ability is insane. It’s incredible, and it’s special. And so, I just don’t want you
to be thrown off track now. So, you know, we need to rise up above it. Jack’s making that transition
from the wounded soldier to somebody who’s actually
a light for other people. That’s a lot. coach that’s the first time I’ve seen you really
connect with the lyrics. So you did everything I asked you to do. It’s onwards and upwards now, Jack. You own this space. (audience cheers) – Are you happy? – I’ve, honestly, I’ve never been happier. – Yeah. – I really haven’t. I feel like I’ve never been
happier in my adult life. – I feel like we’ve reignited that passion again with Jack. He’s loving singing, he’s loving music. That was our mission. A lot of the songs that
Jack has sung so far has been about, you know, personal growth and overcoming things, and I just felt like we
needed to give him something this week that was just
a straight up love song. And he’s about love, you know? – Yeah. – You know, this really
is about that person that you would do anything for. How are you gonna connect to this song? – I guess, yeah, I’ll just be singing this to my future partner. My last relationship,
it just didn’t work out. We’ve both moved on, and
like, we’re friendly. – Yeah. – So I look back at that, and it’s like, it was a really beautiful
experience for me. The most important thing is
to make people feel something. And I definitely want
to try and melt people’s hearts with this performance.     See, this is the reason I have a problem with the "Got Talent" shows. They take up these young people and use them, but don't give them the support and mentorship they desperately need and that guidance is so important.     Okay he is gay. This is an American thing. Other countries don't accept it and will even jail you or kill you. I guess straight people supposed to have sympathy towards gays. Gay people shouldn't be so sensitive when they know the stigma behind it. People always say I'm going to live my life I don't care what nobody say. That's how they should be. Gay people are humans therefore, they talk about everybody else but when somebody say something about them it's different. I don't care who is homosexual or not. But don't try to convince the little kids it is okay to kiss the opposite sex.

    I know the stigma of being an African American man to some people in the United States but I continued to live life.

    Only God can judge! If something bothers u then look at yourself. If he had surgery or not. If he is gay or not. Who cares!!!! He is having his singing judged not his sexuality or his looks! He is gay, he has had surgery (so have a shit ton of people on this planet), he is happy, he is super talented, he is hot, and he is a great person!!! I hope he stays singing this time because his voice is utterly amazing and is like a drug to my ears! I hope he stays happy and being himself because I think it's amazing!!!!

    see this is what I don't like about these shows when you have people who actually won talent shows or has been known at one point in time in the lost their white label whatever they got on these shows and they sing trying to get another chance the way I see it that when you had your first chance you should have seized the opportunity that you were given the first time and because you lost it that is your fault that's not don't blame it on people calling giving you the best press or the negativity know it was this dude spot that he stopped singing five years ago or whenever this was taking place I've with me as a singer I have recently started singing again that I was never known and I was never famous so if I went on the show that's fine with me but cuz I have never had that opportunity he has had that opportunity it was his fault that he stopped singing all this is his fault and now it's a good thing that he didn't win because it would not be right to the other people who has never had an opportunity because that just shows that if he tell one bad is blood matter if you would went on the show or not if somebody was already that has been famous or has already been known if they show up they'll automatically win
