momondo – The DNA Journey feat. Aurelie

momondo – The DNA Journey feat. Aurelie

[Sings La Marseillaise, the national anthem of France] I live in London now, but my family is all from France Those are my grandparents on my mum’s side Quite a while ago Very French So if you could be any other nationality except French what, in your imagination would you like to be? I don’t know … I quite like Italians, cause you know, they’re
super fiery, and crazy and loud and … I’d also quite like to be British, you know,
being, obviously, in London and I really have a great love and respect for
that culture, so that would be interesting So Aurelie, how do you feel about going
on a journey based on your own DNA? Yeah, I’d feel very intrigued, I think I need you to spit in this tube for me Right, the story of you is in that tube What’s it going to tell me? I think it’s going to be quite a boring story It’s going to be, ‘oh yeah, you’re French’, and,
‘wait, your grandparents are French’ and, ‘wait, your great great great
grandparents are French’ Shall we go on that journey Let’s go Aurelie Sit down Hi hi Hi Good to see you again Good to see you too Nervous? I didn’t think I was going to be nervous, and literally
you called my name and I was like ‘uuaaah!’ Well you want to find out what’s in that envelope? I really do Are you sure? Yeah, 100%, absolutely And read those out loud to us Oh my God Oh … wow … I didn’t expect that Sorry, oh my God I’m 32% British?! Excuse me! I’m 31% Italian-Greece? This is not me, you guys, like … Hold on, where’s French? There isn’t any French Shut up … I’m really happy actually Because I live in London, and I’ve never really
felt at home in my own country, in France And if you remember, two weeks ago,
I was actually saying I’d love to be Italian and I’m 31% Italian-Greece Yes It’s almost like my genes know better than I do So would you like to travel to all of these places? Oh yeah … hell yeah! Have a great journey Thank you You’re more British than me!

I'm 100% italian (for what I know) and if doing the test it would end up being not italian at all i would be shoked and really sad. I love italy and I'm proud to be italian.. I can't imagine that my genes aren't italian. But I would love instead having a mix of races including italian. yes i would love it

This result is not surprising for a person of French ancestry. The French are descended from several different groups of people, primarily the Gauls (Celtic), the Romans and the Franks (Germanic). Her "Great Britain" and "Ireland" percentages are probably from her Gaulish ancestry. They show up as GB/Ireland instead (Celtic), because there's no category for "Gaul." Her Italian and Greek are probably from the Romans.

I'm adopted, and the only thing I know is that maybe my biological mother was gypsy. I know nothing about my father or about the rest of my biological family.
I would love to take this test and know about my ethnic background, is one of my biggest dreams.

This brings out strong mixed feings. I'm so excited for them because we all realise we are closer than we think or what politics have allowed us to think. It makes me incredibly tearful because we have been so segregated and pushed away from each other because of politics and fabricated hate that's evolved into real hate and it wasn't even our fault to begin with. I know I will never see it in my lifetime, but I know one day, we will become a unit against the evil. Where there is evil, good shall rise up against it. ♥

I came out 60 percent European mostly Spain and a bit British and French. 22 percent Native American and 12 percent west and southern African and the rest 3 percent Arabic and 2 percent central Asian. So I can clearly say that yes we Latinos are truly the people of the world.

Uau 😱😍!

but a lot of this people in that room are ignorant about what cultures existed before and they make the same mistake….they expect are pure people part of their little or new country they born in it forgetting completed about the history they actually learn in school……is sad to see this, no wonder so much rasism in the world when you don't have capacities to understand who you really are based on your own history…..original french with brown eyes???? forget about it, only based on that I was sure she doesn't have much french and she is actually south italian……I born in south west Romanian with really huge background of war and imperialism place, so based of my look and history I suppose to have some percentage original romanian plus some turkish/south italian/slavs/jews ancestry and if I am close I might belive I am more turkish than others with my look and the region history with tens of fights between them and romanians in that region…..I've been asked before if i am turkish or tatar, even my dad and his family have blue eyes.In my mom make-up family are all brunettes which means that they get there somehow different than my dad family. Is sad to be ignorant about your own history and belive that if you are not who you wanted to be is bad…..what is bad is not knowing your own history and ignoring real ancestors of your history with your look right now…is just STUPID!!!!!!!

    Everyone has 4 grandparents, 8 great-great-grandparents, 16 great-great-grandparents… and so on…
Complete records of births and deaths have only been available for perhaps 200 years. And since Roman times almost all Europeans have been on wanderings.
I don't even start with those who have left the continent.
If we go back far enough, we find ourselves at the same fire and fry a sabre-toothed tiger.

She is only culturally French, having lived & been raised there, as were her parents & further back.
She is 49% UK & 45% Mediterranean. The Spanish probably comes from when Spain ruled Italy a few hundred years ago.
The 3% German is probably from the Brits.

It bothers me that some of these people seem uneducated. Both of my parents are Mexican and I was born in the U.S. if I take a DNA test I’m not going to be mad or surprised when the results don’t say that I’m “Mexican”. There’s been a mixtures of people and races throughout history. I could be from the Iberian peninsula, Native American, and maybe even from the Arabian peninsula. Don’t be mad if you’re Brazilian, and the results don’t say “brazilian” 🙄

I'd love to take that DNA Journey

Are people really surprised they aren’t 100% anything? French is not an ethnicity, as it has had Germanics (Franks etc), Normans (Danes and Vikings), Latins (Occitans etc), Gauls, and Celts etc etc, France is named after the Franks (Francia) since the Middle Ages and has, in the modern world become a nationality with peoples from all over Europe migrating and mixing there, (Germans, Italians, Spaniards etc), Napoleon for example was Italian but his nationality was French….French is more so a Latin based culture or nationality and language not an ethnicity, French DNA however is predominately Gallic or Germanic, there you have it

They are ridiculous…this company of dna test is dangerous.
    Because they don't explain well.
She is French by her mum side for sure.
My dad is 100% French and with dna tests he has only 25% or 30%. The rest is Spanish Italians etc…
For exemple a French Basque is 90 % Iberian with a test; a French from Bretagne (Britain) is 60% 70% Irish and British and a French from Nice or Corsica is 70% Italian…
France is a melting pot of Romans Celts Scandinavian (Normandy) Iberian ( south West Auvergne etc..) Greeks ( Marseille) etc…
The poors whom done the tests don't know well where they come from. A lot of our commun dna comes from the Neolithic.
    Cheers from Paris

I don't like how this woman in some large way, dismissed/denied her entire French ancestry, just because she suddenly found out, after all the years of her life to date, that she's not carrying French DNA. Ok, so she's almost everything European but French, however, she shouldn't forget where she grew up & she shouldn't forget her beautiful culture. Her other family members may well still carry some French DNA anyway. As we only receive "half" our parents dna, it's very possible that her other immediate or extended family members, may well have inherited some French DNA. If they didn't, so be it, but STILL, do not suddenly "dismiss" that in which you were born into & grew up in. I am Irish/Scandinavian for the most part, but if my DNA results said otherwise, i would still love Ireland/Sweden & i wouldn't dismiss it by saying, i always wanted to be this that & the other & treat my country of birth & my long standing culture, as though it is nothing now! Anyway, being French & carrying French DNA, is something to be incredibly proud of! There is absolutely nothing wrong with French people, their culture or their DNA. French DNA is a mix of so many things anyway, for the most part. You have the Celtic influence in their, the Saxon, the Nordic/Normans, the Roman & other bits & pieces too. In fact, most original French inhabitants, arrived in France from Austria! Yes, Germanic Europe. I don't know why so many people bag the French, but it's a wonderful, beautiful, vibrant, classy & rich ethnicity & culture. The French people are a wonderful people, who possess an equally amazing culture & identity. They're a proud race & they're very protective of their culture/identity & so they should be. If i were French, i would be protective & very proud too. I'm only 3% French/German, but i wish i was so much more! Vive la France!! haha

Many say that DNA tests bring more people together, yet i would say, they can cause more harm than good. They can cause many to pick & choose what they really like & dislike & there is some ethnic preferential treatment & rejection that goes on too.

Her Italian and Greek are probably from the Romans. So her overall results do make perfect sense. Also, her Viking @ 3%, that would be from the Viking influence in Northern France, whereby many Northern French, even today, are descended from the Vikings/Normans.
