Summer Skincare Routine • How To Fix Dehydrated Oily Skin • Healthy Skin Barrier

As the temperature gets 1°C degree warmer, our skin tends to produce 10% more sebum. So, what do you do you? You mattify your skin? You over wash your skin? You skip moisturizing. And all of these habits contribute to one thing Transepidermal Water Loss aka TEWL. Basically your skin giving away water to the air. This also leads to a very oily and greasy surface whereas inside the skin is just becoming a desert Summer skincare routine there are 3 things that I always keep in mind. Number 1 is that less is more! So, minimal skincare routine actually works wonders in the heat. Less layers, less products but healthier and happier skin. Number 2 is hydration, hydration and hydration! Summer is a time where your skin gets really dehydrated Transepidermal Water Loss happens significantly because of the heat, because of the over washing and if you do have weakened skin barrier, your skin is more likely to lose water and give it back to the air, which is sad. Number 3: Antioxidants! It can be pure vitamins, it can be a vitamin derivative or it can be already present in natural ingredients. What antioxidant does to your skin is basically just strengthen your skin barrier, bring your skin back to a healthy and balanced state so your skin is able to self-regenerate, self-regulate Morning routine! As soon as I wake up, I will wash my face with water. So, I don’t use any cleanser and I haven’t been using cleanser in the morning for about more than six months. It really helped me regulating sebum production and not surrendering any kind of natural moisturizer that I already do have. While my skin is still damp and slightly moist, I would jump into a Hyaluronic Acid serum. This is NIOD MMHC, Multi Molecular Hyaluronic Complex. Summer time is the ideal time to bring back the Hyaluronic Acid game because there is this simply a because there’s this simply constant stream of moisture particle floating in the air that your Hyaluronic Acid can bind on and put back into your skin so that your skin is hydrated throughout the day I really really love the consistency of this product which is watery and very thin. And this product has multi molecular weight of Hyaluronic Acid So, once it steeps inside the skin, one is in the middle, and one sits on the surface and also it has Hyaluronic Acid precursors, which basically goes inside the skin and stimulates the Hyaluronic Acid production as well as Hyaluronic receptors, which is called CD44. So, basically, it’s a very scientifically organized serum, which does the job, what it promised to do. Right after that I would jump into my moisturizer. I adore this so much. This is the Amore Pacific The Essential Cream Fluid. Now, I know how hard it is to choose a perfect summer moisturizer especially if you do have slightly combination to oily skin. So, this product was basically on my Sephora curated suggested product list and I was very very intrigued, I really loved the product description and all of the technologies that they’ve used But it was still slightly out of my budget. But then one of my blogger friends, whose name is Jude from Fifty Shades of Snail she was already using this product and she was like “Yeah, I think you’re going to love it.” And I […]he bullet. So, the formulation of this product is just like a perfect marriage between a cream and a fluid. This made it into this fluid-y but nutrient-dense, very light weight moisturizer that just keeps my skin hydrated for a long period of time And I was very much curious and interested about the formulating technology that goes behind this product and Amore Pacific was kind enough to say “Yes” to my interview request that I’m going to include in the end of this video So stay tuned for that I would end my AM routine by using a sunscreen. This is the Elta MD UV Clear Broad-Spectrum It is specifically designed for acne-prone skin with 9% of Zinc Oxide and 7.5% of Octinoxade. So, it is a hybrid of physical and a chemical sunscreen. It has a very elegant formulation that actually does encourage me to use sunscreen on the daily basis. If other sunscreens seem to break you out, this is something that might be worth checking out Moving on to my evening routine! I would start off by melting down, dissolving all the makeup that I had throughout the day with this Heimish All Clean Balm So, it’s basically like a very cloudy, very sherberty type of creamy balm and it does make my skin clean, supple, and very very soft. And I never really broke out from this product. It’s fairly affordable. Plus, I emptied this out. I’m so proud of myself. And then, I will follow it up with the Glossier Milky Jelly Cleanser It is a water-based, non-foaming gel cleanser that uses a very mild surfactant. It’s fairly hydrating. It doesn’t strip away my natural moisturizers that I don’t want to surrender to a cleanser. It just does the job So I’ve been using it and I’m about to empty it out, too. Right after cleansing, I would use all of the products that I used in the AM routine, except the sunscreen. So, the Hyaluronic Acid Serum from NIOD is amazing at keeping your skin hydrated and then following up by using the Amore Pacific Essential Cream Fluid And then I will finish off my evening routine with A Rose Hip Seed oil This is from The Ordinary. I’ve been using it for a couple of months. I add this simply because of its potent antioxidant qualities It’s rich in Lycopene, it’s rich in vitamin A, vitamin C It can help reducing or fading the pigmentation or discoloration on your skin. It’s a great lightweight absorbable type of oil because it’s high in Linoleic Acid than the Oleic Acid content It’s a great essential fatty acid that you can add into your routine So, now I’m going to take you guys to the Amore Pacific R&D center. I’m really really excited to bring you guys there. Hi everyone, so today is a very exciting day because I’m heading to the R&D center of Amore Pacific. I have this [like] interesting emotions kind of like bursting here. It’s like meeting up with your ex-boyfriend that you haven’t seen for such a long time but you still kind of have a little bit of feeling. Still. I’m just going to drive. We’re here! So hot! So I’m currently at the lab Look at all these luscious ingredients. [gasps] So, I’m about to interview the cosmetic chemist and the marketer who developed this product [speaking korean] I thoroughly enjoyed the interview and meeting all the people behind the product. Let me know how you guys like these types of videos. I’ll see you guys later. And until then, stay healthy and happy. Eat a lot of antioxidants. Apply a lot of antioxidants. And I’ll see you guys soon. Bye!

Another fabulous and informative video Liah! I noticed you did not use an essence or 7 skin method in your routine for dehydration. Do you recommend or not recommend a hydrating toner with a hylauranic acid serum?

Love the video. But I have been testing out The Ordinary Rose Hip oil and Squalane oil but why do they never absorb into my skin? I have acne prone oily skin and it seems as if there will never be an oil that my face absorbs 🙁

This video came in perfect timing for me and I couldn't be more grateful 🙈 I am VERY minimalistic with my skincare routine, and it has been working for me (I rarely break out), but I wanted to ask you, lately I've been having like very oily t zone but my skin in general is SUPER dehydrated!! I want to bring the hyarulonic acid into my routine just as you said, do you think the hada Labo Gokujyun Lotion and the moisture milk would do the job?

Hi Liah, I have a question. Ive been trying to not wash my face with cleanser in the morning as well, but it still does not "feel" clean if you know what I mean. I still feel the residue of my oils from the night before. Is this normal? Am I not washing my face right? Thanks for all your insightful vids!!!! I'm a huge fan of your channel!

I really wish AP would have skipped the fragrance in this formula! I was considering tracking down a sample or just buying the whole bottle and returning if it didn't work. But I know that us with photosensitivity and other reactions to fragrance could have problems with this. What a shame. 😢 Otherwise, thank you for the incredibly informative video, Liah. I tried using my Ordinary HA serum right after washing today. Let's see if it helps. 😊

Re: warm weather TEWL: Not only does the warm air suck moisture out of our face, but the forced air conditioning makes it harder for our skin to retain moisture, even when it's humid outside! 😧😢 I'm struggling with a bit of TEWL around my mouth right now… I wondered what I was doing wrong, but then I realized that my car fans and central AC are always blowing cold, dried out air on my face! Time to load up on the barrier repair… 😅 🌬️

I love that you go into the more scientific properties of a product! I was fascinated by the interview with the chemist, especially, because as your average consumer, I think we all tend to look at packaging, product efficiency and price. I've never thought about "delivery" systems and how products scientifically work! Great job with this! I hope to see you do more interviews in the future!

I literally just found your channel today and have been watching a lot of videos and love how well informed they are! One thing that really sticks out to me is your use of essential oils. Multiple research throughout the years continously have only show how irritating sensitizing these are and how long term use causes severe collagen damage that one doesn't see so I'm really surprised many products you recommend like the balm here are loaded with them?!

Liah, I'm feeling so helpless. My skin gets even more uglier everyday with continuos growth of pimples blackheads and whiteheads all over my face. I tried jojoba oil and aloe vera and countless over the counter products but I couldn't find the suitable one for me. I am also currently trying very hard t buy new expensive gentle and accurate products but my parents won't let me. They think acne is something that will eventually go away once you've pass puberty. What they don't know is how my friends at school say my skin looks oily and unattractive and greasy, and they won't let me visit a dermatologist because my case is not very severe. I don't have the time nor money to try new products and stick to skincare routines because high school is very busy. I basically go to school at 6 in the morn and come home at 8 and I barely have time for my homeworks and assignments and presentation and time for myself, to relax, to rest. The only time I can truly rest is when I am sleeping. I try to eat healthily, drink water, stop touching my skin, but it just gets worse every single day. I have a biggg blind pimple right on my nose and my classmates are laughing at me. I really don't want it to become severe acne and at the age that every one compares looks and want to be pretty, I just hate being the ugly one with oily skin that looks like someone smacked a frying pan on my face. I know I am lazy and all but I really have no time. I just hate myself always being the girl with huge zits while others constantly complain about their little pimple and how they eat oily food and touch their face and barely drink any water and eat unhealthy snacks and still wake up with a flawless smooth skin and while I wake up with scars and holes and dark spots and blind pimples and whiteheads everywhere on my face and ew, even I hate my skin. I never even wear makeup. Why can I not have non oily skin?! Why ???!!! The oil on my face really gets super scary after the day. It sucks. A. Lott

I hate having dehydrated skin😭my skin is VERY oily, it's no joke… I look like I'm sweating like crazy just 15 minutes after washing my face and applying skin care, and it only gets worse throughout the day. Also this routine where you try to balance out your skin by adding lots of moisture and not using harsh products does not work if you also have acne like me because just washing with water does not cleanse acne prone skin enough. Also, most acne-creams are drying and harsh on the skin but I need them to keep my acne in check…😭 It's like I have to choose between soft, hydrated (although as I said EXTREMELY oily) skin and clear(-ish) but very dry, itchy and irritated skin.😭
